St Matthew’s Primary School Cycle Club

It's about having some quality time with pupils.
St. Matthew’s Primary School was awarded Cycling Scotland Cycle Friendly School Status in May. We have an active programme to enourage pupils, parents and staff to take up cycling as a sustainable transport option.
We provide training in cycle skills, cycle maintenance and First Aid. We use a range of local suppliers including professional cycle instructors, Solid Rock Cycle’s mechanics and the Scottish Ambulance service to deliver the training.
St. Matthew’s Primary School parents are also working in partnership with East Dunbartonshire Access Officer to map out cycle routes in and around East Dunbartonshire so that people who want to cycle can do so in an safe off road environment.
The cycle club meets once a month for instruction and guided rides in the local area looking at the natural and cultural heritage, as well as undertaking trips to Glentress, Scotland permier mountain biking centre.
The club encourages all pupils, from P1 to P7, to take up cycling for fun, improving their fitness and reducing carbon emissions.
The club has also been successful in againing a Scottish Government Climate Challenge Fund award of £18,777 in order to support the programme from 2009 to 2011.
