ED’s Cycle Co-op hailed a ringing success by Provost

At the recent seminar on the cycling successes that has been achieved by the local community group, ED’s Cycle Co-op, Struan Stevenson MEP offered to host a delegation of Bishopbriggs cyclists to the European Parliament in Brussels. Since it began in May 2009 East Dunbartonshire’s Cycle Co-operative has encouraged people across Bishopbriggs to take up cycling and it now hopes to expand its work, which includes providing cycle training, maintenance and guided rides, in 2011. Simultaneous Bike Bell ringing, ED’s style.

ED’s Cycle Co-op was delighted that around 20 schools, over 2,500 pupils across Scotland took part in our Simultaneous bike bell ringing Guinness World Record attempt on European Car Free Day, 22nd September 2010. Every nursery and primary in Bishopbriggs took part, as well Turnbull High School and other schools across Scotland in: East Renfrewshire; Moray; Aberdeen; and Edinburgh. Retro 1970s Choppers a hit at new Cycle Club

Turnbull High School launch Cycle Club with ED’s Cycle Co-op and £4,600 of Sustrans funding, former pupil Peter Jakubski, with his collection of 1970′s Raleigh Chopper bikes. UnLtd Sport Relief for Bishopbriggs BMXers

Bishopbriggs Academy pupil, Andrew Ashworth (15) has raised £1,000 in order to combat misconceptions of youth culture. Andrew recently won a £1,000 award from UNLtd Sport Relief, a UK wide programme for 11 to 21 year olds, funded by Comic Relief, to help his fellow BMX riders find a place to ride without causing a nuisance. ED’s Bike Map published in Bike Week

Today, over 8,000 primary pupils will receive a Cycle Map of East Dunbartonshire. The map has been developed in partnership between East Dunbartonshire’s Cycle Co-operative and East Dunbartonshire Council, with funding from the Climate Challenge Fund and Sustrans. The map has been published in time for the UK’s Bike Week and distributed by East Dunbartonshire Council to every primary pupil in their final week of term, before heading off on their summer break.
